Marlene has developed a complete program for improving horses to their maximum potential through proper horsemanship, nutrition, care, conditioning and training along with the proper equipment to enhance the horse’s performance. She specializes in barrel horses and pole bending horses, which allows her to concentrate specifically on each horse and rider needs. Marlene only trains her personally owned horses and a select few horses that she knows and offers for sale. You too will feel the difference especially when you experience the success brought on by a properly trained individual. Marlene says that it is always inspiring when people state that they can feel the difference in the horses trained by her from anything they have ridden before!
"With our home on the Lone Tree Ranch in Texas we have the facilities for training and tuning horses correctly. Our program works especially well when the owner/rider can spend a day or two with us while getting the first few rides on their new horse. This allows us to communicate directly the changes we feel are necessary to promote success in the future between the horse and the rider." Marlene McRae
Dressed for success! Marlene making another winning run at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas aboard Dutch Watch. Marlene purchased the eight year old, bay gelding in the fall and by the next NFR she won the World Championship on him!

Testimonial:
Aloha Marlene and Doug,
I am writing to let you know what a big difference your clinic has made for me. I finally won my first buckle in Barrel Racing at the Koloa Plantation Days Rodeo two weeks ago. I had the best two runs ever! My daughter who rides the grey horse (she also was at the clinic) took fastest time is the slack with an 18.12. I had an 18.39 on my first run to have me sitting in 3rd going into the show. I ran a 17.71 in the show for the buckle. I wanted to thank you for your help and for giving me the confidence that I needed to pull off some solid runs.

"Each year it becomes easier to pass up rodeos in order to teach, as I do love to help others achieve their goals and aspirations, however my schedule continues to limit the number of clinics and lessons that I teach each year. We offer three day clinics with size limits set to allow each student special attention. I also offer personal, one-on-one instruction here at my home on the Lone Tree Ranch." - Marlene

Marlene's Career Highlights
Marlene grew up in eastern Colorado wanting to be a cowgirl. Her parents, Carl and Elma Schiffer, were busy building their ranching, farming and petroleum businesses, but they always had time to encourage and support her in her quest to become the best. This lifestyle contributed greatly to Marlene's horse and cattle knowledge as well as her business intelligence. She set goals early in her life and set out to accomplish each with a vengeance.
At age 13 she competed at her first Little Britches Rodeo and won the All Around Cowgirl award. This fueled her desire to set higher goals and to attain them.
While still attending High School, Marlene was a leader in more ways than on horseback. As an accomplished saxophonist she traveled around the world playing as member and soloist of selected honor bands, however, she did not realize at some point she would have to make a tough decision regarding what path she would take. "At that point, music and horses were of equal importance to me, I did not know that a decision would have to be made."
During her years at Colorado State University, Marlene made the decision to see how far horses would carry her when she pursued a more challenging level of competition. "I have never been the kind of person that is afraid of making decisions and exploring new horizons."
As Marlene matured into a talented horsewoman she also grew to be a devastating combination of beauty and brains. When she would reach one goal, she would immediately look for new horizons to set the next. In rodeo, one of her goals was reached when she became the World Champion in her event of Barrel Racing. She was satisfied with her accomplishments and the milestones she had achieved, however, she found herself unsure of what direction she wanted to go next. She continued to rodeo mainly because of the great horse that she had developed, Dutch Watch. She knew his abilities could not be put on hold.
In her world championship year Marlene had attained more awards than anyone had ever gained to date. She competed in 120 rodeos that year and was at home for a total of only 10 days. During that time she performed for an estimated 13 million live fans and 100 million television viewers. Hard work paid off for Marlene, who says she has achieved much more than material rewards in her rodeo career, but has also gained knowledge and respect for goal setting and achieving.
1988 became a year that Marlene describes as the year she was presented with another challenge that required her to dig deep inside herself to mentally and physically prepare. The Olympic Games were being held in Calgary and rodeo was being included. Each rodeo event along with the United States and Canada rodeo teams were to compete against each other for the coveted gold medals. Once again Marlene rose to the occasion, won her event of barrel racing and the gold medal against Canada and the United States best including World Champions Charmayne James and Martha Josey. The U.S. team also won the team gold.
Marlene left Calgary with two gold medals and yet another opportunity turned to accomplishment. "Winning the gold medals was the most thrilling event in my life. The World Championship was great and I would not trade that for anything, but there is something special about the Olympics."
Marlene has always brought fashion to the rodeo world. She won the best dressed award at the National Finals Rodeo two times. Marlene has modeled in print ads and posters for Wrangler Jeans, Frontier Airlines, Bailey Hats, Circle Y of Yoakum, Rodeo Video and Dodge Trucks. She has also made personal appearances on television and radio talk shows, including Good Morning America, You Bet Your Life with Bill Cosby and has made numerous television commercials for western clothing and ski wear stores.
As an entrepreneur, Marlene has expanded into producing and starring in video tapes on horsemanship and barrel racing, teaching at her own clinics throughout the United States and Canada, training and developing horses for sale, endorsing selected horse related products and developing and marketing her own mail order business, World Champion Designs.
Marlene now stays involved with rodeo by competing, and winning, at selected events throughout the United States and Canada. Continuing to travel and compete allows Marlene to stay current in the minds of rodeo fans and to promote her endorsements and business ventures.
Throughout her career, Marlene has shown the innate ability to play a part in many different worlds. Many athletes may be one-dimensional, but she is not.
Life at the top has been good to Marlene, who as the forerunner of women's professional barrel racing, has combined femininity and horsemanship to equal a champion rodeo athlete.
There's much more to this champion than the titles she has accomplished!
"I have always challenged myself by setting goals that require the greatest achievement. Being very competitive has driven me to achieve these goals."

Hi Doug and Marlene,
I took a roping clinic with Bobby Harris last weekend and I rode Leno pretty much the whole time. He did so well, and is so easy to ride. Bobby said to never sell him unless I absolutely had to because I would never find another one like him. He actually wants first dibbs if I do ever sell him. He said that it is hard to find such a high caliber of horse with such a quiet mind (which we all knew), but it was nice to hear it from a stranger. I was just so impressed with Leno that I had to thank you guys again for finding him for me. He babysat me all weekend and was so honest. Thanks again! Hope all is well with you guys.

Honey Bed arrived this morning. She is absolutely beautiful. I am truly happy. I can see why she was special to you both. I gave her a bath and fed her and she is doing fine. She has a covered stall and pasture right next to Tennaco so they both should be happy to be together again. Thanks much for everything. Now I can relax for all of my horses are finally here. I will keep in touch if I have any questions or need advice on what types of bits to use, etc… Aloha & Mahalo

"I have always been surrounded by good business people and my interests in becoming a good business person myself motivated me to learn all I could.
My competitive nature has driven me to achieve my goals in sports and in business."
Doug's Career Highlights
Doug was born and raised western Oregon. He was surrounded by the lumber industry with his father owning and operating his own logging business and his grandfather (on his mother's side of the family) owning and operating Moser Lumber Company, a fully operational saw mill and a major player in the timber land sale and development business.
Upon the sale of the family businesses, the McRae family moved to Danville, California. Doug attended high school and college in the San Francisco Bay Area and at the age of nineteen he turned professional as a motocross racer and continued to achieve.
In 1983 Doug became the number one professional motocross racer in northern California in the 250cc class. That same year he was also was the top-finishing privateer at the U.S. Grand Prix of Motocross in the 250cc class. His racing career further grew through his marketing abilities in which he gained many of the most prestigious sponsors in the world of motocross including, Yamaha Motor Corporation, Fox Racing, Fox Factory, Dunlop Tire Company, Maxima Racing Lubricants and more.
"My years spent racing, training and working closely with my sponsors really helped me later in my business ventures as it taught me discipline and what it takes to be successful in any curriculum I became involved in."
Doug received numerous awards throughout high school and college for his art and design works. At the age of nineteen years old he formed Designer Graphics, his own advertising and design studio in Walnut Creek, California and set out to build his first business. The business was successful and was in turn sold after five years of operation. The business was later bought back by Doug and then resold again over a period of three years with each sale bringing a new windfall to Doug due to his reorganization and revitalization abilities of sales each time.
"My father, and his father, were involved in rodeo competition competing in the calf roping and steer wrestling events so we always had horses, ranched and rode while growing up. I enjoyed roping however, never really had time until later in life to devote any time to it."
In 1985 Doug retired from motocross racing and became more interested in horses, rodeo and in particular the calf roping event due mainly to his father, Ralph McRae's influence. Ralph is a PRCA gold card member who competed in the Senior Pro Association with several World Championships including calf roping, ribbon roping and the All Around. With his newfound involvement in rodeo competition Doug made the decision to start up a new business, Cowboy Gear. This business venture marketed gear bags, jackets and vests initially that were manufactured through one of his former motocross connections. As he grew the business into a retail mail order catalog enterprise it was expanded further by its founder into a retail store in Oakdale, California. Doug managed the new corporation as president and majority stockholder through the tough stages of a start up business and into a growing venture at a tremendous growth rate. He became very well known and respected throughout the western industry as an innovative retailer and marketer of his own business and the name brand products that he sold.
And continues to fly to this day.
In 1989 Doug became involved in another business venture, World Champion Designs. This partnership with World Champion Barrel Racer Marlene Eddleman involved the development of a retail catalog that marketed Marlene's endorsed products. Becoming more involved in this business, and enjoying the freedom away from the retail environment, Doug made the decision to sell his majority portion of stock held in Cowboy Gear, Inc.to his fellow stock holders in 1991. This opened another door of opportunity as it allowed Doug to fully concentrate the further development of World Champion Designs into the premier mail order catalog business to a a growing industry around the sport of barrel racing.
Since he was very young, Doug enjoyed flying with his grandfather and his uncle in their company owned airplane. He was always fascinated with airplanes and flying. While in Oakdale he achieved his Private Pilots license and started flying Marlene to her clinics and all.
After Doug and Marlene married in 1993 they agreed on moving all of their operations back to Marlene's home on the Lone Tree Ranch in Colorado. The move also brought with it a new opportunity to become more involved with the cattle business, which included the cow/calf operations on over 20,000 acres of grass and farmland. This new venture lasted for three years when the two decided that their growing horse related businesses took precedence over their new cattle venture. At that time Doug and Marlene moved more into their equine businesses and away from the cattle subsidiary.
Doug gained his Instrument rating with the move to Colorado and continues to fly to get the couple to far reaching venues to see horses for sale, to teach clinics and seminars, and to further research their business opportunities.
Doug and Marlene now concentrate solely on their diverse array of businesses in the performance horse world including:
Lone Tree Ranch- development of horses for the performance equine world and Marlene’s barrel racing & horsemanship clinics & seminars throughout the world
World Champion Designs- direct to the customer products that enhance performance
Marlene’s Special Effx Saddles - research & development, hands on marketing and sales.

JAZZ LITE – 2001 palomino gelding that stands 16 hands tall. He is by Skipper Lite who goes back to Skipper W and out of an Intimidator Mare. He has been shown in Halter and Showmanship. He was roped on when he was young and now is a very nice barrel horse. He runs to the left or right barrel, has lots of rate and very consistent turns. Jazz is a beautiful individual and will work for any level of rider. He is a solid 2D horse and sometimes in the one D. Really his ability is yet to be known.
EDDIE is a 12 year old red roan gelding that stands 15.3 hands tall. He is drop dead gorgeous. A student and friend of mine has done all the training and I have the pleasure of tuning him one week every year.
This is a very nice horse that is wonderful to ride, take care of and run. He is a solid 2D horse with a 6Ft man riding him. Just think what he will do with less weight on his back.
No offense Kyle. LOL
I will post some video's on you tube soon.
Price is $17,500.00
LT Snazzy’s Special- “APRIL” 2004 Sorrel broodmare standing 15 1 hands tall. She is by Fol’s Classy Snazzy the stallion I went to the NFR on. He had a LTE of $160,000.00. Her dam is Chenos April who went back to Peppy San Badger and Special Effort. April was a very nice barrel horse in her day and now has foaled two foals by PC Frenchmans Hayday and is in Foal to A Streak Of Fling.
She is expected to foal on April 26th, 2016. Her first two babies are outstanding and are so mature for their ages. I expect great things from all her foals with the bloodlines and the confirmation she has.
LT Snazzy Ginny; “GINNY” 2014 sorrel filly that stands 14.2 hands tall. She is by PC Frenchmans Hayday and out of LT Snazzys Special by Fols Classy Snazzy the stallion I went to the NFR on in 2000.
I really like this combination, as there is two generation of NFR horses on her pedigree. Ginny has been raised just like all our foals and has a really sweet, laid back disposition. She has good bone, and her neck is perfect just like her mothers. She will for sure make a top-notch barrel horse with these bloodlines.
MARTINI STRAIGHTSTONED – 2006 brown mare standing 15 hands tall. She has First Down Dash, Easy Jet, Windy Ryon, and Sticks an Stones all on her papers. Martini is all but a finished barrel horse and started in the poles. She has a very pretty pattern staying very round in her turns. She allows you to push her and really hunts a barrel. She is great in the alley, nice to warm up and haul. Martini will be a long lasting performance horse because of her correct confirmation and a wonderful broodmare with this pedigree.
Merits Awards Chex- “CHEX” 2003 Sorrel gelding standing 15.2 hands tall. He is by Merit Award who goes back to Okie Leo, and out of Commander Leo Leita who goes back to Leo. He has a LTE of $50,000.00 running barrels. He is also a very nice heading horse. He has a great stop and scores very nice so roping break away would also be an option. He is very very well broke and so nice to ride each day. He does not need much riding during the week, eats and hauls great. He walks down the alley till you tell him to go. I have to help him on the first barrel and all his turns are great. Because of his style he has no ground trouble plus he has most of his experience running in Canada.
Price $45,000.00
PEPPINOS BLUE – 2002 blue roan mare is 15 1 hands tall and is by Squeezy Blue Juan and out of Peppinos April Fool. "Hazel" is a beautiful confirmationed mare along with unique color. She is a 2D barrel horse, 21 second or less pole horse, has been goat tyed off of, and break awayed on. She is safe for anyone to ride and handle. I have known her for two years and she is the kind of horse you would always want to ride. Hazel is easy to warm up and is good in the alley.
LT Tres Ta Fame: “TRES” 2014 Black stallion with grey hair in his flanks and hips,
15.3 hands tall. He is by Tres Seis and out of LJ Lightning McQueen by Dash Ta Fame.
Tres has outstanding bone and size to be a racehorse and barrel horse. All our foals are taught to walk on the walker, clip, trim feet, lung, and load. We feed them Strongdid C daily wormer after they are weaned and do all the yearly shots with boosters. Because of the proper feeding program they all look older than they are.
HORSE SALES
IMA Rockstar- “OZZIE” 2010 Buckskin gelding standing 15 1 hands tall. He is by Mr. Jess Charger by Mr. Jess Perry and out of Leading Hand by Special Leader and second dam is by Master Hand. He had 5 starts on in the track in CA and won $1575.00
I have owned him since August 2014 and have spent lots of time getting him broke. I started him on barrels in March of 2015. He has gone to a few exhibitions and is doing very well. He is galloping the barrel pattern with ease. Ozzie is very gentle, has no buck even after he has set for several weeks. He lets you do anything you want to do to him with out concern.
HORSE TRAINING
LJ Lightning McQueen- ‘QUEEN’ 2007 Grey broodmare standing 15 2 hands tall. She is by Dash Ta Fame and out of BR Fine Platinum by Chicks Beduino. She is in foal to PYC Paint Your Wagon. She is expected to foal on March 31,2016 This mare is the best producing mare I have ever owned.
I have bred her to PY Frenchman’s Hay Day and sold this foal for $10,000.00, She has a Tres Seis yearling that Lazy E will be selling for us in the Heritage Place sale. Queen has a Red Storm Cat Filly by her side that is just as nice. We are getting ready to make a move and I do not want to deal with broodmares and babies.
Ranch Entrance
Turning north off of Hwy 94 onto the Lone Tree Ranch and once you drive over the cattle guard you will only have three more miles in to ranch headquarters. As you can see, this is great country for making great horses!
Headquarters Aerial View
This photo was taken from 500' above the ground looking to the southwest. From top to bottom: white building is the aircraft hanger, next is the large main house with over six bedrooms and a full size, main deck library. Behind the main house (to the right) is the main horse barn complete with the World Champion Designs office and store, behind that (to the right of the photo) is the new nine stall barn with runs. And the grand prize of the facility is the indoor arena measuring 155' wide by 275' long! An excellent training area that defies the elements. To the left of the indoor arena you can see the east end of the other horse shed and cattle holding areas. The long row of trees to the left of the indoor incorporates forty acres of outdoor riding and training area complete with a sand/dirt surface for barrel and pole work without fences and a half mile race track for conditioning/exercising. Everywhere else you look is pasture for riding and grazing. It doesn't get any better than this!
Headquarters Front View
Still looking north, you are now half way into the ranch and only 1 1/2 miles to go. Off to the left is the aircraft hanger and the large white building on the right is the indoor arena. With Doug & Marlene's schedule it is imperative that they can travel immediately and an on ranch airport is now a necessity.
On Film...
A German film crew documents the goings on at the Lone Tree Ranch where it is time to brand calves. This is a beautiful spot on the ranch named the Catlin Corrals after the family that originally homesteaded this spot. It is only a two mile ride from LTR headquarters.
Headquarters West View
Out east of headquarters and looking west with Pikes Peak in the background. This is a welcome site of those riding pastures, checking cattle and fences, as it means they are almost home. It all adds up to better Cowboys (and Cowgirls) and even better horses!
In May of 2011 Marlene and her mother made the decision to sell the Colorado ranch to long time friends and horse customers, John and Connie Snover. This was Marlene's home for over 25 years. It was a tremendous asset to train and ride horses on such a vast layout of big country. Take a look...
